NEW! A collaborative poem by Daniel G. Snethen and me is appearing in Issue #106 of Yellow Mama!

  "...The cruel teacher barks,

cancels recess, hideously instructs
students to place their heads down
on the desks. She is prepared to lash out

at anyone who moves against her
and bite or slash them in the neck.
I was the shy one. I couldn't move.

I was afraid to breathe.
I didn't want her to hear me.
I feared I might get stomped or cut
into even tinier pieces."

in "Dire Wolf Consequences", a collaborative poem by Daniel G. Snethen and me, which is appearing in Yellow Mama Issue #106!

Preceded by art created by Keith Coats Walker!

Here's a link to the collaboration, but read Daniel's individual poems in this issue too, as well as investigating some of the other creepy fiction and poetry and art!

NEW! I am delighted to have two collaborative poems by me and Alex S. Johnson making an appearance in Unlikely Stories!

"Backtracking vertebrae work their way up
to my broken neck, break through dead skin
turn themselves into even more hair trails
I am becoming the opposite of a celestial body
Implosions morphing into explosions morphing
into internal locomotion, growing giant worms"
Very excited to have two collaborative poems "Momia's Metamorphoses" and "Momia's Mauled Metamorphoses" by Alex S. Johnson and me appearing in Unlikely Stories

NEW! I am peculiarly thrilled to have a creepy collaborative clown poem appearing in Horror Sleaze Trash!

"The oldest of the clowns forms the apex of a rotting and sadistic pyramid in which hellbent volcanic ash pours out of the mother clowns mouths like a gravy vat of drying blood."

in Alex S. Johnson and I's creepy collaborative clown poem, "Greasepaint Inferno", which is now making an appearance within Horror Sleaze Trash HERE - https://horrorsleazetrash.com/2024/06/29/juliet-cook-and-alex-s-johnson/

New! Three collaborative poems by Juliet Cook and Darryl Shupe in Menacing Hedge!

I am delighted to share the new Fall 2021 Issue of Menacing Hedge, in which Darryl Shupe and I have three of our collaborative poems appearing, surrounded by lots of other creative oddities!

The three collaborative poems are entitled, "Deep-fried Model Faces Sold Here", "Double Deep-fried Giblets", and "Bloody Rubber Chicken" and are part of a small series we're working on.

"I cracked open the caged runway models who were not allowed
to wear anything other than dirty sheep wool.
Whose teeth and tongues had been removed to make room
for more nasty spittle."

(from the poem "Deep-fried Model Faces Sold Here")

NEW! Tarot Card Shark, a collaborative poem by Martin Willitts Jr and me appears in The Daily Drunk!

Thank you to The Daily Drunk for accepting the collaborative poem "Tarot Card Shark" by Martin Willitts Jr. and me, to appear within its Terror Taco Tuesday theme (in which every poem had to include terror or tacos...)!

He writes so many love letters,
he will soon forget which ones were for you.

He gets tired of you and fills your drink
with rat poison, but gives you the wrong drink,

confusing you with his other lover
who loves low-fat milk.

"This is a compilation to behold. It holds nothing back, and does not deny itself the pleasures of the flesh: horror, macabre, and the grotesque find their home here. Each poem is somehow delicate and horrible..."
Part of a new mini-review by Amy Layton, of "A Red Witch, Every Which Way", a collaborative full-length poetry book by j/j hastain and I, published in 2016 by Hysterical Books

of the truth."

NEW in Deluge NO. 12 - Pajama Bottoms for Flying Ghosts of the Underworld by Juliet Cook and j/j hastain

"but it wasn't it was
right here in my room with me
a ghost a forefather a surprise
descant of the eyes
moving through a chipped decanter.

I wasn't sure whether or not
to take the stopper off
and where to pour the contents.
Maybe they would slink themselves
out of the chips, slowly climb up
to the ceiling and drip themselves down.

Maybe the bottle would fling itself against
the mirror and allow someone or something else
to crack out of that broken glass."

within j/j hastain and I's poem, "Pajama Bottoms for Flying Ghosts of the Underworld", which I am delighted to have appearing in Deluge NO. 12!

of children's heads is hoping
to replace brain waves
with tiny new fingers for the maggots."

NEW in Ex-Spec Po - Four Collaborative poems by j/j hastain & Juliet Cook!

"I made it worse because I screamed
when he shoved the tiny bird into his mouth.

I mean, I'm pro-choice, but that doesn't mean
I'm going to hunt down and collect fetuses
to eat like a martyr holding an overly
ripe lime. The limoncello turned red

and we read the entrails for rewards,
hoping to watch the broken bird wings
rip themselves out of his mouth and take off
into the sky with a line of vultures

carrying him with them."

j/j hastain and I have four collaborative poems appearing in Ex-Spec Po today!

The lines above are from the poem, "Celestial zoo where the lubricants may cause death or new life".

NEW in FLAPPERHOUSE - "The Moon Made Out of Bloated Cheese" by j/j hastain and me

"Sometimes I wonder where my voice comes from
and where it will go next.
My stomach keeps gurgling like it wants to be my voice.
I don’t think my stomach can handle American Cheese anymore.
It feels loaded with toxic chemicals."

Plus what is enough? (a collaborative poem written by Juliet Cook and Charles Cicirella)

Plus what is enough?

I didn't realize this fruit had fangs
until I bit in and swallowed.
I guess they're technically prickly spines
carved out of someone else's brain.
The x ray tech told me my veins were okay
but they only checked one part of my body.

I mean I can't even organize my own photos,
so let's not talk about the insides
of my screwed up head trying to coalesce
with the insides of someone else's.
Plus which your head can just fuck itself
if you're going to make fun of my other friends.

***

The Me Too Movement left me on the sidelines
somewhere between Hell and High-water.
And I’m not okay with that because I have a story
even though I choose not to tell it unless the lights
are out and I’m wearing my favorite pair of jammies.
There’s something to be said for discretionary spending.

I’m so tired of taking the higher ground and listening
to my better angels.
The better devils inside of me are kicking up a tumbleweed
tsunami and refuse to settle for their own Broadway musical.
I’ve listened long enough to the voices inside my head
and am pretty sure they don’t have my best interest at heart.

Sometimes I think pinking shears live inside my body
and I want to pull them out and cut off some of you guy's dicks.
Sometimes I think there's a lawnmower living inside my body
and I want to yank it out and cut off someone's eggplant shaped head.
In my dream a doll house is filled with tiny chainsaws aiming towards doll eyes.
In my nightmare I am the doll house filled with tiny dolls with chainsaws for mouths.

NEW in Bad Pony - a collaborative poem by j/j hastain & Juliet Cook

"As if aiming without aiming.
As if maiming the grounds
keeper and then piling up the pulp of internal
systems,
dyeing them
then trying to sell them to the highest
bidder on the black market.
This market will collect us all..."
from the poem Peristalsing Pistil, by j/j hastain and me, appearing within the NEW issue of Bad Pony

Poetry Life Force! More January Poetry News!

Despite some distressing and unexpected and difficult to deal with and mentally challenging glitches going on, I am still working on poetry stuff and feeling good about that.

Finished preparing a rather large assortment of chapbooks for mailing, reading submissions for Thirteen Myna Birds and Blood Pudding Press (although admittedly a little behind where I'd like to be, but I am still working on it), and excited to have years worth of my poetry be part of the Crisis Chronicles Press 2015 line up later this year (my second full-length poetry book, Malformed Confetti!)!! and to have one of my short poems be positioned next to a unique artsy drawing (and other poems and other drawings), in ANTENNAE THE ANTENNAE, new from Green Panda Press!

Plus a new Winter issue of Menacing Hedge just went live and includes some individual poems by me, as well as some collaborative poems by j/j hastain and me, here - http://www.menacinghedge.com/winter2015/

Plus my new collaborative chapbook with Robert Cole, MUTANT NEURON CODEX SWARM, with awesome cover art by Christen Baer, is now available from Hyacinth Girl Press, and I'll bet I'll be getting my copies in the mail soon.

If it wasn't for the delights of poetry and art, I'm pretty sure I'd go bonkers (in a non-poetic way) - but lucky for me, that will never happen (unless some non-poet creature eats out my brain).

New Collaborative Poem in Crisis Chronicles!

"A silo
a spillway being swallowed
in sallow halos will lead
towards self-created flying things.
It doesn’t matter how far down
you throw me."
