NEW Review of MUTANT NEURON CODEX SWARM (a collaborative poetry chapbook by me and Robert Cole, published earlier this year by Hyacinth Girl Press)

By the time we reach Swarm One, addiction has consumed both speaker and reader:  “Lucid unrelenting pain proponent, we were somehow winged/with gigantic stingers all over our skin.  Nobody can touch us anymore.”  The emotions of the speaker echo what the reader is feeling.  The scene is too painful to endure, and yet too alive to pull away from.  We are completely consumed.

From that peak moment of unity, immediately we are plummeted into dregs of emotional despair.  Swarm Two blasts us with a scathing dose of realization:  “Nobody can save us . . . Ashes ashes we/used to think we were interesting.  Now we are nothing/but rotten fritters that would eat until nothing remains.”  With that slap to our consciousness we are faced with a mirror of entrails that are both otherworldy and our own, and we think this must be the end, this must be where reality strikes and someone is saved.  But no, Copy and Pasty My Eyes shows us that there is no happy ending to be found in this tale.  Clarity is not to be found.  “Here, at the entrance/exist, blinding dust is everywhere.

Another New Review of MUTANT NEURON CODEX SWARM

"Though not a collection for the faint of heart, there is much beauty to be found in these painful poems. The gorgeously grotesque imagery and musicality of lines like “Twisted doll head inside blood drenched meringue.” and “The dead skin moss slumped then slithered; spread our limbs apart/ then bred them into new chrysalis.” is undeniable."
from a new review written by Kathy Burkett of MUTANT NEURON CODEX SWARM, a collaborative poetry chapbook by Juliet Cook and Robert Cole (Hyacinth Girl Press, 2015)

New Review of MUTANT NEURON CODEX SWARM

This book is writhing with its own secrets; its own masks; its own messes. This is a place “where the light at the end of the tunnel/is another tunnel smoldering beyond control.”

New MUTANT Blurb

Pouch has called MUTANT NEURON CODEX SWARM (Hyacinth Girl Press, January 2015) by Robert Cole and me, "A Burroughs-esque sci-fi odyssey. The kind of nightmares we WANT to have."

Issue One contributor Juliet Cook has a recent chapbook co-authored with Robert Cole, MUTANT NEURON CODEX SWARM (Hyacinth Girl Press, 2015). We read it & we liked it. A Burroughs-esque sci-fi odyssey. The kind of nightmares we WANT to have. Some of our favorite bits:

'In the moist throng of our sexual misunderstanding, they invented a way to filter dead skin from bad memories.
Later we searched the trash for the filter, collected the slum in our fingers, ate it whole like a pinch of moss.' - from Fins and Scalpel

'Paper tornadoes all over the place.
The telegraph reads DON'T
stop DON'T stop DON'T stop
DON'T you dare! The aftermath
is never good enough.' - from Stop the Madness!

Elegantly bound. Consider checking it out:

Poetry Life Force! More January Poetry News!

Despite some distressing and unexpected and difficult to deal with and mentally challenging glitches going on, I am still working on poetry stuff and feeling good about that.

Finished preparing a rather large assortment of chapbooks for mailing, reading submissions for Thirteen Myna Birds and Blood Pudding Press (although admittedly a little behind where I'd like to be, but I am still working on it), and excited to have years worth of my poetry be part of the Crisis Chronicles Press 2015 line up later this year (my second full-length poetry book, Malformed Confetti!)!! and to have one of my short poems be positioned next to a unique artsy drawing (and other poems and other drawings), in ANTENNAE THE ANTENNAE, new from Green Panda Press!

Plus a new Winter issue of Menacing Hedge just went live and includes some individual poems by me, as well as some collaborative poems by j/j hastain and me, here - http://www.menacinghedge.com/winter2015/

Plus my new collaborative chapbook with Robert Cole, MUTANT NEURON CODEX SWARM, with awesome cover art by Christen Baer, is now available from Hyacinth Girl Press, and I'll bet I'll be getting my copies in the mail soon.

If it wasn't for the delights of poetry and art, I'm pretty sure I'd go bonkers (in a non-poetic way) - but lucky for me, that will never happen (unless some non-poet creature eats out my brain).

MUTANT NEURON CODEX SWARM! A new collaborative poetry chapbook by Juliet Cook and Robert Cole (Hyacinth Girl Press, January 2015)

Very excited and creepily delighted to announce a new collaborative poetry chapbook by me and Robert Cole, MUTANT NEURON CODEX SWARM, freshly published and now available from Hyacinth Girl Press!
The twisted mutant innards of this creature are a peculiar fit for an utterly unique and creative and somewhat disturbing New Year!
The hideously awesome cover art was created by Christen Baer and offers different art on the front AND the back!
Below are a few poem lines from the MUTANT and below that is a book blurb by Laura Madeline Wiseman.

"Necroplasm flows in a cemetery conduit
leading to a cave dead with purple
where the light at the end of the tunnel
is another tunnel smoldering beyond control.
He/she/it can no longer speak for itself,
but the semi-rigamortised mouth spews out
unexpected pitcher plants, partially digested."
some lines from the poem "Churning Codex Portal"
***
"Mutant Neuron Codex Swarm swarms with unexpected delights for the sybil nymph, the cryogenic witch, the blue goddess and more. Here the body with its twisted wings, heart strings, and sticky salivary gland salutations, is a body that knows Nobody can touch us anymore and nobody can save us. Whose body you wonder? Are they Human? Truth is, as Cook and Cole explain, You decide. How do you decide? You enter with the collaborating pair into an incomplete metamorphosis where you’re commanded DON’T stop DON’T stop DON’T stop DON’T you dare! and told homeless men walk around with sporks. So sit back and allow Cole and Cook to place the napkin just so, for Mutant Neuron Codex Swarm purrs with language play, with surprising imagery, and with an attention to sound that will razzle dazzle the neurons in this thrilling new collaborative chapbook."

NEW Jet Fuel Review includes two collaborative poems by Juliet Cook & Robert Cole

"Thighs drip drip drip all the way down
in some shady bathroom past. A fierce diagonal
crash down the drain. What comes out of
that mouth is the opposite of diaphanous."

Within the new Spring 2014 Jet Fuel Review, are two collaborative poems by Robert Cole and me - "Blood Drenched Funnel Cake" and "Another Inedible Funnel Cake"  (pages 12-13).

These two poems are also within our collaborative chapbook, MUTANT NEURON CODEX SWARM, forthcoming from Hyacinth Girl Press.

Lots of other uniquely interesting stuff in this new issue too.

New Poetry Chapbook Interview

A new chapbook/collaborative interview of me and Robert Cole, conducted by Laura Madeline Wiseman!

"I wanted to start a collaboration with Juliet to explore the aspects of life that I have been afraid to confront. I wanted to scare myself, really. It became apparent pretty fast that our combined style of writing was doing just that."

Robert Cole

"...since as an individual writer I seem to use similar content and even similar words a lot, I really enjoyed receiving lines that included words that don’t usually pop out of my poetry brain (like scrimshaw and sultans and puppies) and integrating that stuff into the same forum as my kind of words (like egg cups and tentacles and a blow torch) and probably creating new kinds of descriptions for both of us."

NEW POETRY NEWS!

This coming Saturday, July 20, 7:00 PM at East End Book Exchange (in Pittsburgh, PA), I will be part of a Hyacinth Girl Press poetry reading – also featuring readings by Sally Rosen Kindred, Daniel M. Shapiro, and one or two others TBA.

*

Speaking of Hyacinth Girl Press (which published my poetry chapbook, Thirteen Designer Vaginas in 2011 – and yes I will be reading two or three Designer V’s during the poetry reading this weekend, noted above), it is now official (in a darkly delicious sort of way) that press has accepted another chapbook of mine for publication in their 4th year – MUTANT NEURON CODEX SWARM, a collection of collaboration by me and Robert Cole, coming your way in 2014!

I am very excited and delighted to be a part of this group of five women and three men, in Hyacinth Girl Press’s 4th year of publication:

Lisa Marie Basile - war/lock
Dan Nowak - the hows and whys of my failures
Caitlin Elizabeth Jans - Incident Reports
Amorak Huey - The Insomniac Circus
Risa Denenberg - blinded by clouds
Juliet Cook and Robert Cole - Mutant Neuron Codex Swarm
Laura Madeline Wiseman - His Late Wives

You can find out more about all of us at the Hyacinth Girl Press website here:

Speaking of 2014 excitement, I don't usually like to focus on feeling overly excited about things way in advance, because then my excitement tends to lead towards unfocused freaked out nerve blobs, making it harder to concentrate on the here and now - BUT having said that, I will make a little exception for a few minutes here.

I'm pretty darn excited that 2014 will MY FIRST TIME EVER ATTENDING AWP AND HAVING A TABLE THERE - and sharing table space and poetry love with a number of other extra-special poetry women. My Blood Pudding Press with The Rooster Moans splitting table T3 – Hyacinth Girl Press with Menacing Hedge splitting table T4 – Dancing Girl Press with Misty Publications splitting table T5! YAY!

*

In other exciting news, my hair got dyed red today (an “INTENSE MEDIUM AUBURN” called “CHERRY CRUSH” – thanks Mom!).

(and i might like an alcoholic beverage called cherry crush)

(and I will save my one little sad spurt for the comments section)
