"Received your book Evil Me in the mail yesterday. Wasn’t planning necessarily on reading since was a “support Eileen” move but put on my coffee table and couldn’t resist opening to first pages—very attractive looking—Read the first poem, and loved!! Second one also!!

After that I have left it on my coffee table to pursue. I’ll continue to update you as I go thru them…I did want to tell you that I really loved the first 2 poems and the book format/appearance in the meantime."

Christine Bassaber (the author's sister) about EVIL ME by MISH

I said hello
to the death songs inside me.

I caressed the safety razor
I used to shave my legs.
I couldn’t force myself
to carve the flesh of my wrists.

I asked my mother
to move so I could reach
the cabinet under the kitchen sink:
I’ll drink Drano.
I’ll kill myself.

No, you won’t, said Mother
and told me to set the table.

in the poem "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

A NEW Interview with me is up on Cultural Weekly!

Thank you very much to Eileen Murphy for conducting this Cultural Weekly Interview with me about poetry. One of the questions she asked me was why dolls find their way into much of my poetry and here was part of my response:

"I feel like some people view or treat other people like dolls, in certain ways. Or maybe not specifically like dolls, but like un-meaningful, un-individualistic, largely emotionless, relatively heartless bodies that can just be broken into little pieces, thrown away, heaped in the trash, or tossed in a garbage barrel with a bunch of other quickly cut off doll heads."

NEW! Happy Fall from Thirteen Myna Birds!

Happy Fall from Thirteen Myna Birds!
"This is the hope of lizards and birds when they hold still in a hand, the endless hope - we have nothing else - I am unwell - Pink foam explodes from my head - to always appear kissable depends - Soon I’ll be recycled - my hard drive’s caught a nasty virus - It mentions changes that require more evaluation - Tick-ridden, each word - an electric cigarette - she remembers the rage in his body..."

Here's what Eileen said about her photo: "Here's what I've been reading this week--Women of the Beat Generation by Brenda Knight (MJF Books 2000), the new, irreverent chapbook by Juliet Cook called From One Ruined Human to Another (CWP Collective Press 2018), and Pain Woman Takes Your Keys and Other Essays from a Nervous System (by Sonya Huber, U of Nebraska Press 2017). I'm enjoying these books, and thought you might enjoy them, too."

A NEW Review of the Blood Pudding Press poetry chapbook, "Paloma" by Jennifer E. Hudgens at Cultural Weekly!

"How is it even possible for a person to recover from the murder of a loved one? Or move forward with anything approaching detachment and peace? In the new chapbook Paloma by Jennifer E. Hudgens (Blood Pudding Press December 2017)the speaker’s dear friend has been brutally slain. Family and friends are stunned, in denial, angry, heartbroken.
This book is dedicated to Lauren Kate, the speaker’s friend. The resulting poems are extremely touching; at times, they even made me cry. And at times, I laughed, too (see “Too Much,” which imagines the dead friend as playful poltergeist). With honesty and sensitivity, in Paloma the speaker deconstructs the friend’s death"
and
"There is also no false sentimentality here. Fittingly, like a good trial lawyer trying to impress a jury, the poet layers detail upon detail, building her case. For example, in the poem “Spiders {A Lullaby},” the poet compares death to a spider, saying “Fuck that spider    I want to peer into its mouth    Count every hair and tooth     Counting your     bones    fragmented in its throat.”
For all I know, Jennifer E. Hudgens could have had a tough time writing these poems; however, the poetry in this chapbook looks and reads like the poems just flowed out, carried by the speaker’s strong, distinctive voice."
from a wonderful new review by Eileen Murphy, of the Blood Pudding Press poetry chapbook, "Paloma" by Jennifer E. Hudgens, appearing in Cultural Weekly this week!
Thank you very much to Eileen Murphy and Cultural Weekly.

The New April flock of Thirteen Myna Birds is here!

"Whether in the Black Lodge, Screaming outside - worm lips moving - I’ve earned those black hearts on my headdress - there’s been an accident on the road ahead and all you can see are the lights - You celebrate angrily - Full of nothing But male doms On FetLife - A man with tattoos of stars and moons on his face - breathless wind of dust and waning moons - Only buzzards fly in these stale skies - Rusty lava in the arteries not the lamp - I really did believe those were tiny people encased in that orb - Don't forget to celebrate this doom anniversary - the eyes of the deceased being carried away down some tunnel - Whatever it was, it was everywhere now, shared around, not just personal."
The April flock of Thirteen Myna Birds has arrived! Brimming with strange new suns and moons and peculiar tunes of art/poetry by Eileen Mish Murphy, Wayne F. Burke, Thursday Simpson, Nate Maxson, Vin Whitman, John Grey, and Michael A. Griffith.

The New February flock of Thirteen Myna Birds!

The new February flock of Thirteen Myna Birds is HERE! - https://13myna.blogspot.com/
Featuring three pieces of art AND two poems by Mish/Eileen Murphy! Three prose poems by Howie Good! Two poems by Kelly Gangeness! Three poems by Charles Cicirella!
"Birds that hadn’t learned to fly yet were about to be hauled away in trucks - I woke up screaming like a Barbie with no head and whose Dreamhouse is under water - soaked through and through with debris and fish feces - a shortage of coffins - The Pope shakes in awe by the power of the chainsaw - I’m lost in the narcissistic membranes of brain synapses that pay me no mind - like the cave in your head - presiding over its own prolonged rebirth - Maybe I should ask for help. I just don't know. It’s all a bit of a blur - The only thing that has ever made one iota of sense to me is the art and the art never fails me even when I fail myself"

New the July Thirteen Myna Birds Flock Has Arrived!

The July flock of Thirteen Myna Birds has finally arrived, filled with wonderful new poems by Sarah Lilius, Christian Sammartino, Mohja Kahf, Eileen Murphy, Donna Dallas, Ali Jones, Natalie Crick, Sarah Valeika, and Mike Zone!

"My lungs live in a beehive - where a baby tooth has been extracted, enamel sold to a higher power - stare at the fireplace that is empty and barren, same as my head - my pelvis will substantially be involved in my getting out of bed - Congealed dirt lies on the bottom, like a thin crust of coagulated blood - you let the blood-red twinkle along into your cup - set your body to rewind, in case you miss something - I'm growing fins to swim out and meet you - I'm talking to myself again, like this tin can Telephone has the signal to reach your ears - on blankets in the darkness in the only bed we owned - The white cat lies across the flagstone path as if she owns the flagstone path - boned trees erupt Through frost skins - black skeleton branches touch out for acceptance - ready to fold—over and over - You and I aren't all closed casket memories And eulogies yet"

NEW! A Review of (the temporarily revived) Blood Pudding Press poetry chapbook, The Laura Poems!

"The abuse has begun by the time Laura is ten years old. BOB has been climbing through her bedroom window at night to molest her. She must stuff toilet paper in her heart-patterned panties to stop the bleeding.
Already, the seeds of darkness are being planted in Laura's psyche. Laura imagines being snatched up by an owl's talons, flying, then being dropped onto iron spikes. Laura says, "At least [I] can imagine / being dropped. Falling / falling / falling / in love with the dark spikes.""

from Eileen Murphy's new review of my old poetry chapbook, The Laura Poems (which was temporarily made available again in the Blood Pudding Press shop last month, in honor of Twin Peaks revival).
Thank you very much to Eileen Murphy and Glass for writing and publishing this review.
