A NEW Interview with me is up on Cultural Weekly!

Thank you very much to Eileen Murphy for conducting this Cultural Weekly Interview with me about poetry. One of the questions she asked me was why dolls find their way into much of my poetry and here was part of my response:

"I feel like some people view or treat other people like dolls, in certain ways. Or maybe not specifically like dolls, but like un-meaningful, un-individualistic, largely emotionless, relatively heartless bodies that can just be broken into little pieces, thrown away, heaped in the trash, or tossed in a garbage barrel with a bunch of other quickly cut off doll heads."

A NEW mini-review of my poetry chapbook, "From One Ruined Human to Another"!

A new mini-review of my poetry chapbook, "From One Ruined Human to Another"! Thank you to Casey Renee Kiser!

"Juliet is one of the coolest poets I have ever read and this one is another gem. The poems I related to the most were the title poem, ‘Bloodlines’, ‘House of Her Cards’, ‘Bookmarks Stuck Inside Cracked Columns’ and ‘Blood on the Unpillowed Cases’. Juliet is so creative and twisted, you can’t help but want to get lost in her words. Her world. This book is excellent quality."

"Dripping with Juliet Cook’s grotesque mastery, this collection explores the struggle between embodiment and un-embodiment. A must have for those collecting Cook’s poetry."

"I grew up sheltered, strung
in between other people’s pieces,
so overprotected I felt the need to rip myself out

through a jagged fence
in order to see for myself,
name my own blood."

A reader's remarks about Juliet Cook's "From One Ruined Human to Another"

"I am reading Juliet Cook's incredible chapbook "From One Ruined Human to Another" and I encourage you to get a copy and read it.
Juliet has a sincere and powerful voice. She pulls no punches and gives crystalline insights on not only her experiences but, I think, experiences of all daughters.
If we assume Juliet refers to herself as being a ruined person, I would argue that if she can create art as true as this, she is in no way ruined."

Here's what Eileen said about her photo: "Here's what I've been reading this week--Women of the Beat Generation by Brenda Knight (MJF Books 2000), the new, irreverent chapbook by Juliet Cook called From One Ruined Human to Another (CWP Collective Press 2018), and Pain Woman Takes Your Keys and Other Essays from a Nervous System (by Sonya Huber, U of Nebraska Press 2017). I'm enjoying these books, and thought you might enjoy them, too."

I have a new poetry chapbook available! "From One Ruined Human to Another" by Juliet Cook (new from CWP Collective Press, as of June 2018)!

I am incredibly excited and delighted to announce that I have a NEW poetry chapbook, "From One Ruined Human to Another", newly published and newly available from Cringe-Worthy Poets Collective!

This is my first new poetry chapbook to be published within the last three years, so those of you who hear me read poetry have probably encountered some of these poems in recent years.

For those of you who don't know my poetry, it isn't very pretty. Little girls coalesce into blobs of blood with ripped out hearts. Contaminated tissue, bible cysts, evil spells, slimy pus, disbelief in love, dead birds, dead hearts and other broken parts, doll torsos with broken heads, giant rat traps, stars filled with teeth broken from the molars, at least three different poems with pussy in them, lots and lots of blood and lots and lots of holes.

The chapbook contains 26 hideous pages worth of poems created by me AND two pieces of fantastically wonderful cover art created by poet/artist Craig Firsdon (one on the outside front cover and one on the inside front cover).

I'll share more photos when I receive my own copies of the chapbook (probably sometime next week), but for now I am sharing a link to where you can acquire your very own copy of my new book, and I'm sharing some close up scans of Craig Firsdon's cover art!

If you're into my poetry (or are interested in checking it out), please support the press that chose to publish it!  For only 5 bucks plus shipping, you can get yourself a copy from CWP Collective and have a hand-designed book of 25 dark red poems and two fabulous pieces of unique art right in front of you.

HERE! - https://www.cwpcollectivepress.com/bookstore-1/from-one-ruined-human-to-another

You can also buy other chapbooks from CWP too!

As a small sample, here's the beginning of my poem "After the Lite Brite Died"

"Sometimes I'm not in the mood for light hearted.
Sometimes I'm not in the mood for light.
Sometimes I'd rather sit by myself in the dark.

Sometimes I only want the Lite Brite colors to be dark
red like a rare moon, red like the blood
that will make you back away from this
girl turning into a woman who will not keep her own red flow a secret anymore."

Trigger warning: contains pussy

Is it inappropriate to say in my promo about my own new poetry chapbook that it includes at least three different poems with pussy in them? Because I mean...it does.
And I know some people don't like the word pussy, but if that word bothers you (or if you're bothered by being bothered and like things light and sweet and child-safe), then you probably wouldn't like my poetry anyway.
One of the only times the word pussy bothers me is when men use it as an insult, as though a man calling another man a pussy somehow indicates that the other man is weak.
You might want to rethink your word usage men, because a pussy can handle a lot more than a dick can.
Which reminds me, I do have a couple pricks and dicks in my poems too - but I don't act like some dick expert; I just incorporate my own thoughts/feelings/experiences into different words and so on and so forth.
And sometimes I need to rethink my own word choices and language usage too. But not so much when I'm communicating about or creatively interpreting my own body, mind, mini mental blood bath malformations, or brain interpretations.
I mean, it's not like I'm insulting anyone else's pussy and it's not like I'm forcing my pussy right into your face (unless you ask me to and I want to).
(By the way, to anyone who wants to read my promo of my new poetry chapbook, "From One Ruined Human to Another", I will soon be posting it, in another blog post, above this blog post. And/or here's a link to where you can acquire the chapbook - https://www.cwpcollectivepress.com/bookstore-1/from-one-ruined-human-to-another )

Of course there are exceptions, but often, I think what it boils down to with words is that they're thought about and not just carelessly blurted out (or worse yet, cruelly used). For the most part, it's not words themselves that are offensive; it's how one chooses to use those words.
A worse yet example would be when a man uses a comment like "grab them by the pussy", implying that he should be in control of any woman he wants. Too bad we have such a cruel, controlling asshat in charge of way too much and way too many, who thinks it's acceptable to shove thousands of people in cages.
