"Old doll head cracked with
evil fossil stuck inside
like expired cream

filling spilling out."

in my poem "Another Pie in the Face"

NEW! Su Zi's Review of my Poetry Chapbook REVOLTING!

"The book is a pure example of the chapbook format, and this one has a subtle and elegant presence. Ironic to this perception is the book’s title Revolting (Cul-de-sac of Blood, 2024), the work being a recent offering from Juliet Cook...

...Cook’s style oscillates between the conversational and the surreal without ever being derailed from the poem’s thesis. There’s a fun energy here, a sense of play, even when the topics themselves might not be lighthearted."

a few snippets of Su Zi's new Review of my poetry chapbook "Revolting".

In addition to reviewing my chapbook, the article also focuses on the joy of print poetry chapbooks, discoveries from the online poetry community, the importance of independent presses, and related elements.

"In our times now of needing to prioritize individual makers over global producers, it does a greater good to buy a chapbook..."

Thank you very much to Su Zi for writing this wonderful review/article and thank you very much to GAS: Poetry, Art & Music, and Belinda Subraman for publishing and sharing it!

"We found its dead body inside a kitchen cabinet,
skinny, curled to one side, and all alone.
Sometimes we learn the hard way

that other people think we're overreacting
by getting really upset when a little pet dies,
as if it should be easy to replace

one little pet with another little pet
or one spouse with another spouse.
As if death is not the end of everything."

Some lines from the poem "From Hormone Imbalance to Death", the first of thirteen poems which appear within my latest poetry chapbook, "Revolting".

Revolting is now available in the Blood Pudding Press shop HERE - https://www.etsy.com/listing/1851916682/new-revolting-by-juliet-cook-2024-poetry

"Sometimes we learn the hard way
that some mice will eat their own babies

like sadistic cannibals, leaving nothing but half a body
attached to a head that will always live inside mine."

in the first poem ("From Hormone Imbalance to Death") within my NEW chapbook, "REVOLTING" (very recently published by Cul-de-sac of Blood).

I'm sharing a few more photos of this chapbook, as well as this whole poem here.

The next time you assume
that I worship the same way as you,
all the wall hangings will violently crash,
all the splayed remnants will come back to life
in different incarnations. Thirteen mice

you killed without thinking twice
will emerge from my mouth, convulsing,
convoluted, hurling into screaming incantations,
their tiny skulls temporarily paralyzing you,
so that you can't keep on ignoring me.

a small excerpt from my poem "Thirteen Mice", which appears inside REVOLTING

NEW! Two of my creepy poems are appearing in Cul-de-sac of Blood!

I have two new short poems appearing in Cul-de-sac of Blood!

Usually when I have new poems up, I share a few lines from one of the poems, but this time I'm sharing Cul-de-sac of Blood's description of my poems because I love their description!
Furthermore, after you read the two poems, if interested you can click on "Learn More About These Poems".
Here's what Cul-de-sac said about my poems:
"Rotting bear dolls & chicken brains erase our heads & replace them with images of themselves, & though we might not have a name for this process, Juliet Cook’s poems show us what it feels like to find ourselves somewhere between foreground & background."
Read the poems HERE - https://www.culdesacofblood.com/juliet-cook-3
This photo of Henry Spencer (played by Jack Nance) in Eraserhead (directed by David Lynch) initially inspired the first poem.

I am extremely excited to have FOUR NEW POEMS appearing in Cul-de-sac of Blood!

Extremely delighted to have FOUR NEW POEMS appearing within Cul-de-sac of Blood!

Here's the editors description of the poems - The orbitoclast, a tiny hammerhead shark tap tapping us into place. “I was walking through a parking lot” leads us inevitably, somehow, to “I wasn’t sure if I was human anymore.” A standard red horror. In these poems by frequent contributor Juliet Cook, medically-induced terror finds us where we live

Here's a few lines from the poem "Both Similar and Dissimilar" -

I wasn't sure if I was human anymore.
Maybe I was a goose in labor,
giving birth to a subhuman or else
I was in the middle of aborting my own brain
inside another terrible dream, trapped
underneath a seeping blue machine
shaped like a giant pill container
with cracked slots that don't keep anything inside.

And here's where you can read all four poems! - https://www.culdesacofblood.com/juliet-cook-2

Also, underneath the four poems, you can click on a link to learn a little bit more about the poems, such as what inspired them...

I have two creepy new poems bleeding their way through the CUL-DE-SAC OF BLOOD!

I have two creepy new poems making an appearance inside the CUL-DE-SAC OF BLOOD.

The poems are entitled, "Thorns Stuck Inside My Left Foot" and "Knocked Out".

Underneath "Knocked Out", you may also click on "Learn More About These Poems", if so inclined...

"The swelling kept changing its shape and position
like impending signs of my shifting sins that deserved
to be punished. It's my fault. I'm going to Hell
even though I don't believe in Hell.
My hysterical foot keeps expanding
into an increasingly uncomfortable land of the unknown."

in the poem "Thorns Stuck Inside My Left Foot"

NEW! Two of my creepy poems are hiding behind the walls in the CUL-DE-SAC OF BLOOD!

"It sees me having a seizure on the fuzzy shag rug
that didn't exist yesterday. It sees me being pitched
across the room, strange words flinging out my mouth

into another uncertain land of the unremembered."

I have two new creepy poems inside the CUL-DE-SAC OF BLOOD...

Also, under my two poems, you can click on "Learn more about these poems" and read some of my thoughts on some of my poems.

For example...

"Women bleed and bleed until the menstrual blood stops, their bodies age, and they speed race closer to death. If you didn't get chased to death and chainsawed or stabbed or bludgeoned or otherwise eviscerated when you were younger, then it won't be long before your body starts eviscerating itself. Then you will die. Then you will only exist in a few other people's memories, perspectives, and (mis)interpretations.

Perhaps my poetry exaggerates these matters, but it's true that the real me not existing anymore is terrifying to me.

I hope that parts of me might still exist in my poetry, even if it tends towards the negative."

NEW! Three collaborative poems by me and j/j hastain are dripping in the CUL-DE-SAC OF BLOOD!

Delighted to share that j/j hastain and I have three collaborative poems appearing in CUL-DE-SAC OF BLOOD!

"When I brought my black flower inside, there were bunches
of human hair hanging from the petals. At first, I wasn't sure
where they had come from. Then I realized
of course they came from me. But I wasn't sure
if they would destroy the flowers or help them grow
into something new. Part of me felt that the more they grew,
the more my peripheral vision would be altered."
