Unable to shut."

NEW! "A Red Envelope", a collaborative poem by me and j/j hastain appears in Berfrois!

"Sometimes I ignore reality.
Sometimes I exaggerate reality.
Unsteady lines break into
the un-convenient store and drink
all the 2 percent milk until
a red envelope slides down
an internal window."

the beginning of j/j hastain and I's newly finished poem, "A Red Envelope", which is newly published in Berfrois!

NEW! Two of my creepy poems are hiding behind the walls in the CUL-DE-SAC OF BLOOD!

"It sees me having a seizure on the fuzzy shag rug
that didn't exist yesterday. It sees me being pitched
across the room, strange words flinging out my mouth

into another uncertain land of the unremembered."

I have two new creepy poems inside the CUL-DE-SAC OF BLOOD...

Also, under my two poems, you can click on "Learn more about these poems" and read some of my thoughts on some of my poems.

For example...

"Women bleed and bleed until the menstrual blood stops, their bodies age, and they speed race closer to death. If you didn't get chased to death and chainsawed or stabbed or bludgeoned or otherwise eviscerated when you were younger, then it won't be long before your body starts eviscerating itself. Then you will die. Then you will only exist in a few other people's memories, perspectives, and (mis)interpretations.

Perhaps my poetry exaggerates these matters, but it's true that the real me not existing anymore is terrifying to me.

I hope that parts of me might still exist in my poetry, even if it tends towards the negative."

Although sometimes I feel like even my blood is invisible to others...

NEW! Three of my Internal Suffocation Poems in Misfit Magazine!

"Here's my small fucked up contribution
to the world. Speech stilted,
memory desiccated. Me
exaggerating everything.

My lingering outbursts
turn into violent mosh pits
inside my own mind.
Then I fall down into oblivion.

Then I get back up again..."

Delighted to have three of my Internal Suffocation poems making an appearance in the NEW Fall 2022 Issue of Misfit! (Looking forward to reading all the other poetry in this issue too!)

NEW! Three collaborative poems by me and j/j hastain are dripping in the CUL-DE-SAC OF BLOOD!

Delighted to share that j/j hastain and I have three collaborative poems appearing in CUL-DE-SAC OF BLOOD!

"When I brought my black flower inside, there were bunches
of human hair hanging from the petals. At first, I wasn't sure
where they had come from. Then I realized
of course they came from me. But I wasn't sure
if they would destroy the flowers or help them grow
into something new. Part of me felt that the more they grew,
the more my peripheral vision would be altered."

The Poetic Pursuit of Juliet Cook - My Updated Website!

I got VERY frustrated and upset for many hours when I accidentally deleted part of my own website and couldn't figure out how to restore it. Despite my serious frustration, I then spent several more hours working on updating it. Instead of trying to re-do my Home page the way it was before, I made it different and it might look even better now (or at least different).

Here is my newly updated website - https://julietcook.weebly.com/

Among the updates, the Home page now includes information about and a link to the NEW Blood Pudding Press poetry chapbook, "Short Poems of Violence and Chickens" by Juliet Cook and Darryl Shupe.

"This body makes me increasingly uncomfortable.
The escalating scale.
The fat with a watered down cavern inside.
The loosening tissue with fish gills drying out.
The hagfish orifices turning into fossils.
I can handle my whitening hair, but
soon I won’t be able to swim very far
away from deterioration."
the beginning of my poem, "Fish Sticks With Hot Flashes", which appears in this new issue

My last photo of me before I turn 50

Me on Saturday October 16, 2022. One of the last photo(s) I took of myself before I turn(ed) 50. 😱 But I'm still 49 for a few more minutes and I'm still 49 in this photo. I certainly don't feel old and I'm certainly not saying 50 is old, but it feels pretty weird that's going to be my age in about 1 minute (and before this photo gets done downloading itself...yep, it just hit midnight)...

New! Three new poems of mine are appearing in the Terror House ("Death Will Always Exist," "Field Dressing Fantasy," and "Body Captivity")

"...You’re horrified by the idea of not existing
and that nobody will remember you very well.

You won’t be able to remember yourself
or think for yourself or speak for yourself
and that’s your current interpretation of Hell.
Whenever you have one of your unexpected seizures,
you then spend weeks feeling negative and afraid
of unexpected death. You don’t feel ready to not exist yet."

Three new poems of mine are in the Terror House today - "Death Will Always Exist," "Field Dressing Fantasy," and "Body Captivity". You can read more HERE - https://terrorhousemag.com/exist/
