New Millenium Interview

Didi Menendez, poet, artist, & editor/publisher extraordinaire of such publications as MiPOesias and Oranges & Sardines is posting interviews with various poets she has published this decade on a blog called 'Poetry: The First Ten Years of the New Millenium'. Here's a mini excerpt from my interview:

"Imprinted somewhere in my head is a cookie cutter that I am both trying to fit into and trying to creep out of. Much of my poetry is situated in the realm of that conflicted resistance. If I could grow some new appendages like a misshapen tail or tentacles, then I wouldn’t fit the mold. I think of my poems as appendages on a larger body that is trying to evolve into a new breed of misfit."

(Like I mentioned on FB, I'm not sure why I chose to submit a photo in which I look like some kind of bony owl/witch hybrid engaging in a random staredown, but you'll have that sometimes, I guess.)

meat curtains & banana curls

A few recent search terms that have led to this blog have been 'pretty peckers' and 'Nellie Oleson banana curls'. The latter is most likely related to some mention of my short series of Nellie Oleson poems (one of which is supposedly forthcoming in 'Side of Grits' and one of which was just accepted for the premiere issue of 'Bone Bouquet' and a few others of which are crying out for revision), but don't ask me about the former.

In other news, I finished my first-ever artist grant application! Yay! That's almost good enough to make me forget about my infernal PMS (cramps and headache and bloat of the breed that do not want to respond to any treatment). At least I don't have to use crocodile dung tampons or Lysol douche.

Oh and speaking of Read Write Poem, their first-ever Virtual Book Tour will be starting tomorrow--featuring the latest lovely Blood Pudding Press tome, 'At night, the dead:' by luscious Lisa Ciccarello.

latest creative business

I sold out of my official copies of MONDO CRAMPO a couple months ago. They were published by Dana Teen Lomax for the dusie kollektiv 3 and were really slick-looking with bright red see-through covers and brad bindery, but alas, they are gone.

Well, I was recently asked for a review copy of MONDO CRAMPO and I remembered that Dana Teen had sent me some extra loose innards that she had leftover after assembling the chapbooks--basically, everything except the sleek red cover piece and the bindery hardware.So I decided to assemble a copy myself, stitched together with fringey turquoise ribbon that kinda looks like theatrical blue pubic hair.

I am pretty pleased with the way it turned out. I have just enough supplies to make two (and only two) more limited-edition copies like this, so if you want one, get in touch. I'll send a review copy for free; I'll also consider trade copies or sale copies. Let me know if you're interested and we can make some arrangements.

Here are a couple of mini reviews of new chapbooks by poet/editor Brooklyn Copeland.

Of MONDO CRAMPO, my poetry chapbook published through the dusie kollektiv 3 (of which I only have ONE remaining print copy available):

‘The design is cool and the poems are so very Juliet Cook. Meaning, I can't read them before bed or before eating. I can safely read Juliet's poems between the hours of 12p and 4p. I love how inventive she is. I feel like she takes all the girly dressings and yummy fixings about which I am most nostalgic, puts them in a blender with her own blood and spit, and pours them into a cupcake pan for baking.’

Of SPIDER VEIN IMPASTO, the latest Blood Pudding Press multi-writer project:

‘Five stars for design. I love the Blood Pudding chaps. The poetry in this one seems to flow better than in EN (though I loved that one, too). I don't know why I think this. Very good stuff, though. I can never have too much ribbon in my library.’
