Best of 2014 (in the Literary World)

Up The Staircase Quarterly has published TEN DIFFERENT LISTS BY TEN DIFFERENT WRITERS/EDITORS about THE BEST OF 2014 in the literary landscape.
My list might be a tad long for a list and maybe a tad overly personal, but...
Thank you to everyone/everything on my list for helping 2014 ooze with creativity.

Day Three of They Talk About Death Featured at the Wardrobe's Best Dressed!

"... How many times
have your azure eyes laid their
stare on them, cussing lines at the
world? The poet’s table is coarse, set with
bowls of steaming ink, with forked tongues
feeding on Truth, and visionary imagination."

from today's shared poem, "Rimbaud’s Spoon and Fork" by Alessandra Bava.

from day THREE (Xmas Eve!) of Alessandra Bava's Blood Pudding Press poetry chapbook, They Talk about Death, being featured at the Wardrobe's Best Dressed!

New Review of my RED DEMOLITION

Cook has created a manic blur of a speaker, a ghost of a woman who sees herself in the assumed reflections of some common and somewhat catastrophic objects.  In "Head Twists" we see the first of these reflections as being a "headless manikin."  The speaker is looking at herself in such an image, pondering if such a headless "manikin might be more level headed than the current twisting me."

from the beginning of a new review of Juliet Cook's latest poetry chapbook, RED DEMOLITION (Shirt Pocket Press, 2014), by AJ Huffman at Sein und Werden

NEW! My Poem in A Fistful of Razors!

"While drinking a Bloody Mary, I think I almost died.
Is that puke, blood, or did I just spill
my glass before I passed out?
All I know is when I woke up,
the whole floor was covered in red
and I was alive again, but forever haunted."

from my poem, "Why I Dye My Hair Red", which appears in A Fistful of Razors (10 Poets)

This poem of mine also lives in my latest chapbook, RED DEMOLITION (Shirt Pocket Press, 2014) and you can get a copy from my etsy shop here -

New Review of House on Fire by Susan Yount (Blood Pudding Press, 2014)

An amazing new review of "House on Fire", Susan Yount's 2014 contest winning Blood Pudding Press poetry chapbook, thank you to AJ Huffman and Sein und Werden!
In the poem, "Sissy," we see a portrait of futility:  a little girl holding a dead goat; a sister pretending to get help--"to call the vet"; the little girl refusing to give up as she "Breathes into him/as hard as she can."  This poem eloquently defines the perpetual cycle of abuse that, more finitely, rears its head in later poems.  The cycle of devastation, of pretending, of wishing maybe it isn't true, of hoping that if we believe and if we pretend and if we continue it will suddenly be something else, come back to life, when all the time we know such devastation is final, is death.

snottier than her scrawniest calf.
She was not alive during the famine –
not a mime, not a lesbian nor a riding horse at the county fair.
She was not a split-die operator, a sweetheart

Late June Delightful Poetry News

Utterly delighted that my poetry has been published in two different awesome places in two days – Diode 7.2 went live this past Sunday and includes one individual poem by me. ILK Journal oozed out its fourteenth innards Monday and includes two collaborative poems by me and j/j hastain.

I am also currently in the process of working on a new collaborative poetry interview, assembling a new collaborative poetry chapbook to submit, and working on the next Blood Pudding Press chapbook, among other things.

I'm a little bit behind with reading Thirteen Myna Birds submissions, reading things other than lit mags and submissions, and emailing my friends (and writing new poems, and revising old poems, and submitting).

However, having poems in Diode and ILK outweighs the behind-ness.

And stay tuned for news about the new Blood Pudding Press poetry chapbook coming soon – They Talk About Death by Alessandra Bava.

Another New Review of House on Fire by Susan Yount (Blood Pudding Press 2014)

"The implications are loaded as we read on to find out what happens to the poet and her father. If you read the other poems in this collection you will learn why she is hiding in the woods and the hunt will leave your heart pounding for her. While we wonder about the true ending we know the poet survives to tell the tale.

I cannot do these poems the justice they deserve, they will tug at your core self. If you enjoyed this review, you may purchase a copy of Susan Yount’s House On Fire from Blood Pudding Press for $7.00 at:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/177826146/new-house-on-fire-by-susan-yount-2014?ref=shop_home_feat_1"

Thank you to Poet Hound for a new review of the Blood Pudding Press poetry chapbook, "House on Fire" by Susan Yount; read the rest here and then consider purchasing the chapbook to partake of more:
